Ophelia to star in new Marvel blockbuster

Another 8 minutes idle star appeared in the news this week - this time it is the lovely Ophelia Lovibond who plays Teri opposite Tom Hughes’ Dan. She will be joining the all-star cast of the upcoming sci-fi film Guardians of the Galaxy, which already includes Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana and Michael Rooker. The film will be directed by James Gunn and will be shot in the UK ready for an August 1 release next year.

Introducing - The Lonely Dodo

Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust have launched their Lonely Dodo campaign to raise awareness about how to help species from becoming extinct. The campaign centres around The Lonely Dodo, a short film directed by Matthew Walker that we made with Aardman starring Stephen Fry as the narrating Frog and Alistair McGowan as the Dodo himself. Matthew also did all of the designs - have a look at the website to join the campaign and meet the Lonely Dodo crew.

8 minutes idle star in 1950s fashion shoot

Tom Hughes modelled some 1950s inspired outfits this week for men’s style website Mr Porter and talked to them about his recent projects, including BBC’s Dancing on the Edge and The Lady Vanishes and, of course, 8 minutes idle. Also nice to hear about his upcoming film I Am Soldier as well as his first modelling experiences and love of music. Those 1950s clothes suit him pretty well, wonder if we’re going to see him in any films set in that decade coming up…

Kaia goes Behind the Scenes

The first ArthurCox project Kaia worked on was the ‘Making Of’ video for A Time Traveller’s Guide to Bristol and over the years she’s continued going Behind the Scenes for other films. She directed the EPK for our first feature 8 minutes idle and most recently worked with The Fold, a feature film shot in Bristol and Cornwall last year, to create the Making Of and a Behind the Music featurette for them. She also collaborated with the Bristol Film Office to create a promotional video called Filming in Bristol: the Southwest Alternative.

Flatpack Festival gets a visit from the Chapman team

George is heading up to Birmingham this Saturday 4-5:30pm to explain how we went about Re-Animating a Dead Python for A Liar’s Autobiography. He’ll be joined by Ben Timlett and I’m sure they’ll discuss how they managed to bring together 17 different animation styles, from Matt’s 2D Flash sections to George’s oil-on-glass animation to CG and stop-motion sections, to create one film - oh yeah, and in stereoscopic 3D. It’s all free, but you’re advised to book ahead.

A Pig’s Tail wins Telly Award

Our recent stop-motion film, directed by Sarah Cox, that we made with Aardman for The Humane Society of the United States has been named a winner in the animation category at the 34th Annual Telly Awards! The Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions and online commercials, video and films - we’re very excited that they honoured our little plasticine pigs with an award.

Animac opens with A Liar’s Autobiography

Not only will A Liar’s Autobiography will be opening this year’s Animac International Film Festival of Animation in Lleida, Spain this weekend, but our very own George Sander-Jackson will be giving a talk with Bill Jones on Friday called “This is how A Liar’s Autobiography was made“. With such a unique collaboration of animation studios, this film is especially suited for ‘making of’ talks and docs - if you’re not in Spain this weekend and want to find out more, you can watch the behind the scenes documentary “Anatomy of a Liar” on Netflix.
